7 Tricks to Get a Goooooooooooogle of Links

SEO is a race. And in any race learning from your competitors makes you a better runner. Even when you’re running first it’s sometimes good to look back and check the runner-ups. And if you’re not the yellow jersey guy, you absolutely should examine the leaders: their gear, their training, their strategy. In SEO the most interesting thing about your competition are their links.
Whether you like it or not SEO is still pretty much about links. Good link profile can make up for almost any lack of optimized content and other onpage flaws. Love or hate, the best thing you can do about it is embrace the fact and run with it.
So let’s go through some tricks that will enable you to look deeper into your competition’s link profile granting you access to the restricted areas: their locker room, dirty laundry and even the briefing hall where they plan their link building strategies.

Let’s talk competitive link research

Finding out where your competitors’ links come from is not all that hard. You just go to Yahoo! or Google and type in link:www.your-competitor.com to get a list of inbound links to the site.
Yahoo’s much better in that respect as it tends to give more extensive and accurate data. The problem here is that there’s a limit of 1,000 links per website which is often not enough as the fattest link sources get left behind the limit fence. Here’re some tips to break through to the other side.

Note: If you’re lazy like me skip to the end of the article where I’ll share a tool that does it all much quicker.

Trick 1: Search for links to particular web pages of a competing site

Alongside with link:www.your-competitor.com search for link:www.your-competitor.com/products.html or link:www.your-competitor.com/services.html and so on.

Trick 2: Exclude internal links

You may examine the internal linking structure of your competition if you want to gain some insight on their navigation and marketing steps. But as we want to find more external links, let’s exclude the internal ones.
You can do this by adding -site:site.com operator to your search query. Type in

link:http://www.your-competitor.com -site:your-competitor.com or linkdomain:www.your-competitor.com -site:your-competitor.com

and you’ll get a list of external backlinks only.
There’s a dropdown option in Yahoo! site explorer that does the same.

Trick 3: Exclude links coming from certain domains

The -site: modifier lets you exclude links coming from specific sites. So, whenever you see a large chunk of links coming from same domain add -site:thisdomain.com modifier to your query and the links from this site will get replaced with new ones.
You can add -site: multiple times in one query so that you have something like this:

Trick 4: Check links coming from certain TLDs

This is a little known trick. The site: modifier actually lets you get a list of links coming from domains with certain TLDs: .com, .org, .edu, .co.uk and so on. Just type in link:http://www.your-competitor.com site:.gov or linkdomain:www.your-competitor.com site:.gov and you’ll get a list of .gov sites linking to your rival.
Note: Do this in Yahoo! regular search, not site explorer

Trick 5: Exclude links coming from certain TLDs

This is an even lesser known trick. You can exclude certain tlds from the results with the -site:.tld modifier. Usually the biggest chunk of links comes from .com’s so add a -site.com modifier and you’ll get lots of new link data.

Trick 6: Use different combinations of the first 5 tricks

Try link:http://www.your-competitor.com/page.html
-site:your-competitor.com -site:.com

Or link:http://www.your-competitor.com site:.org -site:wikipedia.org
Give it a thought and I’m sure you’ll come up with lots of your own. Feel free to share your findings in the comments

Trick 7: Use the above 6 tricks in different search engines
Don’t limit your searches to Yahoo! and Google, go to AltaVista, Alexa, (Bing doesn’t give you link data, so forget about it) but then there’re Exalead, Excite and tons of regional search engines. Search them, remove the duplicates and you’ll have a goooooooooooooooogol of competitor’s links to study.

Note: Some search engines have a different set of operator so you’ll need to type domain: instead of link:.

Getting it all done fast
This sure seems like a lot of work and it is. Moreover, getting the links list is only the beginning and the easy part of competitive link research. Once you get the list you need to analyze each link, weed out poor quality sites and only leave the ones you can get a link from. Now THAT’s a lot of work.

I’m too lazy to do this all by hand, besides I value my time too much to waste it on such kind of work. That’s why I use SEO SpyGlass an advanced link analysis tool that employs all the tricks described in this article (plus some more advanced ones I don’t even know) to get up to 25,000 links per domain, which is much, much more than any other tool can get.

SEO SpyGlass also finds all the data I need to analyze the links:

> Google PR of the domain and linking page
> The URL and title of the linking page
> The anchor text and description
> Whether the link is still on the page (sometimes the link gets removed but search engines will think it’s there till they reindex the page).
> Whether the link is no-follow or dofollow
> How many other links are on the page
> How much link value the link passes
> And some other data like TLDs, domain age, country, etc.

If you want to do competitive link research seriously I’d strongly recommend trying SEO SpyGlass out. And of course you can always use my tricks whenever you want to run a quick background check on that new guy on your block.

How to get indexed by Google in ONE hour

If you’re not familiar with how some people accomplish getting their web sites submitted to Google quickly, you are going to absolutely love this article.

I’ve bet you’ve heard from many people that it can take days, weeks, even months to get indexed by Google. If you have heard that, you’re now thinking, “OK Jamie, you must have had a really stressful day at work today and you’re now hallucinating that this is possible!”.

If I read this blog title a while ago, I’m sure I would be thinking the same thing as you! Ok, let’s move on to how to get indexed by Google within one hour.

The secret is quite simple. Almost every site in today’s Internet world uses the social network sharing buttons. On my blog, http://www.endyourif.com I include it on every article page. I also include it on the main listing pages underneath my article summary.

If you don’t already have one of these on your sites, get one now, just search “Share This” or “Add This” and you will find a ton of web sites that tell you to put a few lines of Javascript code on your web site and it does the rest.

Ok, so now you have this button added to your web site? Perfect, I would suggest going to a page on your web site that you think will be the most valuable to other users and submit it to a couple of those sites listed in the button.

I have personally found excellent success with both Digg and Reddit. I launched a web site about 1 or 2 months ago, submitted two links to Digg. I waited about an hour or so and searched Google with keywords that I felt I targeted well and lo and behold there it was, my page was found and indexed with Google. Not only was it found, it was in the top 10!

Don’t just stop here though. Submitting to the above sites will provide you with some quick traffic. It won’t last long if people don’t like your site. Plus, it won’t cause your other pages to be indexed either. It really is just a start.

The next step is to create an XML sitemap of your content. Once you’ve done this, create an account on the Google Webmaster Tools. You will need to add your domain and verify your site before continuing.
Once you’ve completed this, add your sitemap that you previously created. Within a few minutes (some times longer), Google will validate your sitemap and queue all of your links to be indexed.

This of course is not a guaranteed solution to be indexed any faster. But Google certainly seems to crawl your sitemap on a regular basis and check the links. It also checks how often your site is updated, the more frequently it is updated, the more frequently Google will crawl your content!

If it’s possible, you should try to perform some kind of daily updates to your site. Ideally if you allow users to comment, hopefully there will be several new comments per day and this will cause your data to be considered new.

Things You Must Do for Your Off-Site SEO

As many of you may already be aware, search engine optimization can be divided into two distinct parts: on-site optimization and off-site optimization. Both are important in terms of achieving that much coveted top spot in Google that you have been yearning for your website.
This article however will be focusing on the off-site optimization part of the entire process and the different tools that you can utilize in this regard.

Quality Of Back Links

In most other circumstances it’s supposed to be the more the better, but in terms of SEO back linking you actually have to take better care of the quality of the back links that you receive more than the quantity that is coming your way. This is because Google actually gives more weight to the page rank of those sites which are linking back to you even though they may number fewer, as compared to those which are considered as weak back links coming from websites having low page ranks no matter how many they are.

Using Your Keyword As Anchor Text In The Back Links

Consistently emphasizing your keyword in your back links will drive home the point to Google and will make them understand what your site is all about. You must be careful however that the anchor texts would not look awkward in the overall flow of the article linking back to you otherwise Google will also notice this and may classify some of the links as spam as a result. It will also help if you vary your keyword a little bit every once in a while and not use the exact same keyword over and over again as this will not look natural and for which you may be penalized as well.

Be a Guest Blogger on Related Sites

This is one way for you to get noticed and will establish you as an authority on the subject of your blog. Best thing is that the site owners will usually allow you to leave credits and provide links at the bottom of your article so that readers may know how to contact you or find you. If the website where you are guest posting is well respected and has high traffic count then it would be so much better for your site as well.

Leave Comments On Relevant Blogs

Find blogs that are relevant to your site and participate and interact with the author or other readers by leaving comments to their blogs. This is another way to establish your knowledge on a subject matter which can create corresponding trickle effect of goodwill for your site.

Video-Link Baiting

This strategy can also be used for on-site optimization but it’s much more effective if you utilize it through YouTube. Users which might not have noticed you through other channels will be alerted of your site via attention-grabbing videos which you post on YouTube. Just be careful that you stick to ethical standards when you post your videos as bad taste will definitely create a backlash for you and your offered products or services. You don’t want to sacrifice content just for the sake of some short-term grab for attention which will easily wear off anyway and yet the bad taste associated with it will remain for a long time and could possibly rub off on the reputation of your site or product.

How to Write Effective SEO Headlines

There’s the fine art of writing catchy, reader intriguing headlines.  And then there’s the importance of SEO.  Combining the two effectively is a little trickier and can mean the difference between success and failure… well it’s maybe not that extreme but it does matter, and if you know what you’re doing you can get it right.

Step One – Keyword Research

Unless you are incredibly adept at SEO, it’s likely that you are targeting long-tail keywords for your website or blog.  Long-tail keywords are basically phrases which due to their length are easier to rank for in Google.  Ideally you need to include your keyword in your heading, whilst at the same time making your heading sound interesting.
For example, the keyword in the title of this blog post is ‘effective SEO’.  The Google keyword tool tells me it’s not a bad keyword to try and rank for – it has over 5,000 searches a month and medium competition – so now I just need to encourage you lovely readers to click on my post.  This is where I need to come up with a catchy title.  Here are a few of the pages that are on the first page of Google for my search term:
  • 5 Secrets to Selecting Highly Effective SEO Keywords
  • The Simplest, Most Effective SEO Move You Can Make
  • 22 Effective SEO Tips
All of the above are catchy, and I’m sure that as a user I would click on a couple of them.  Want to know why?  Well aside from pleasing Google they also intrigue a reader.  Hence my title ‘How to Write Effective SEO Headlines’ would probably (at least I think it would) intrigue a reader too.

Step Two – Keyword Placement

Whilst not essential, it is a good idea to place your keyword at the start of your headline if possible.  I haven’t managed to do it with this post but it is thought to help an SEO strategy if you can.  A few examples of good keyword placement, that will still intrigue a reader include:
  • Effective SEO – Five Tips That Won’t Cost You a Penny
  • Effective SEO Strategies That Can be Implemented In Seconds
  • Effective SEO Marketing – Are You Sure You’re Doing it Right?

Step Three – Take Your Time

An effective SEO headline won’t just appear out of thin air, and many will take a while to come up with.  In fact some SEO copywriters say that the headline of an article should take as long to come up with than the article itself takes to write; whilst this may be a bit extreme for an average blog post, it’s not a bad way of looking at things.  It’s a good idea to brainstorm a variety of headlines and then narrow your list down.  The one that keeps popping out at you, is likely to be the same headline that will intrigue your readers, so have faith and go with it.  Don’t be afraid to keep messing around with your headline until you have got it exactly as you want it.  There are also a variety of different punctuation marks that you could include to give your headline that little something more.
Above all, remember that you want your headline to be catchy for your readers, but full of SEO juice too.  The better your headline is, the more clicks to your webpage you will receive.  Good luck!

Optimizing Your Local Business Blog for Top Results

Blogging is a way to share your local business content daily, weekly, or on whatever schedule you choose. With these tips, you’ll better understand what it is visitors expect when visiting your blog as well as some tips on what to do to increase lead generation. These tips are great for those who are starting out with creating a new local business blog page or for those who already have an existing one.

When focusing on the following, you’ll be doing wonders to help optimize your blog to maximize your lead generating efforts:
  • Buttons
  • Call-to-Action/Subscriptions
  • Formatting
  • Images
  • Preview Option
  • Quick Loading

Use share buttons.

With the way social media networking is growing, it’s important to have your blog connecting to any and all of those networks. There are two buttons to consider including to make this happen:
  1. One’s for the social media sites you use to allow viewers to follow you blog.
  2. The other is buttons that go on your blog so that viewers can share your blog on their social media networks.
With share buttons, it’s important to not have too many. Customers may choose to ignore the buttons altogether if overwhelmed by too many options of where they should choose to share your blog. Only include share buttons for social media networks that you use frequently.

Include call-to-actions.

If wanting to better your lead generation for your blog, then including a call-to-action in each post you publish is very wise. If you choose to do so, make sure to test them to make sure the call-to-action operates properly. You’ll appear unprofessional and possibly lose leads if they don’t. You also need to make sure your call-to-action is easily understandable so visitors will know what to do to subscribe to whatever it is you’re offering to gain access to information

Formatting is important.

The main thing you should focus on when formatting your blog is the headline. It’s what traffic should see when visiting your local business blogging site. Visitors should be wowed by it and be able to easily understand what the blog is for; in this case, your local business.

Images are a must.

I can’t inform people enough about how vital images are when it comes to websites, even blogging sites. They are what people tend to notice immediately and are also what people remember. With the images, you need to make sure they are used appropriately throughout your blog, and they shouldn’t be random. They need to relate to the topics within a specific blog, as well as your local business blog sight itself.

Make your blog easy to search on and view.

Your local business blog site is, after all, where you publish content about your business. With that being said, people don’t like scanning through every post that’s been published to find what they’re looking for or one’s that interesting to them. You should create a digital table of contents that includes a brief preview of recent posts published on your blog that’s easy to locate.

Site speed is a necessity.

If you’re looking to have a low bounce rate, then you should make sure that your blog page loads quickly. Those who visit your site expect to view the content they’re searching for immediately. If your page loads slowly, then visitors will more than likely leave and not return.

Use these tips to create a lead generating local business blog in no time.

Kim Jong-Il – Your Link Bait on a Platter

Is death funny? Is it appropriate to make light of another person’s demise, or to use the topic for your own purposes? So long as it’s about a kooky-ass dictator in a land far away, the answer is “Hell yes!” Kim Jong-Il is link bait incarnate… or reincarnated, as the case may be.

Most often, the pursuit of links through original content is about providing readers with real value and hoping you gradually grow your readership within your target audience. Your content is the means by which you demonstrate your ability as a thought leader, an expert, an analyst, or perhaps just a helpful person. Most articles that talk about how to “go viral” actually provide advice on how to create good content that people want to read. You should do that all the time.

This article is not about good content. This is about jumping on the trend– the meme– and appealing to the basic emotions of curiosity, self-righteousness, schadenfreude, indignation, or whatever else stirs the pot.
Go ahead and pronounce yourself above it, if you like. Maybe you don’t want to be associated with tasteless foolishness. I’m not suggesting you write a piece lambasting ol’ KJ to post on your site’s homepage, or blog, or your brand’s youtube account. You could stick with kittens.

No, seriously, you don’t even need to be the author, nor do you need to publish on your own site. Grab a writer online, or use a pseudonym for all I care. The point about link bait content is that if it catches people’s attention, it leaves a trail of link juice back to wherever you point it.

Few readers will ever care who wrote it, much less follow the link back to your site. Google, however, will notice exactly how many times your piece was shared (even on social media), and that’s what matters when it comes to link bait.

In the pre-Panda era, link bait came to mean sites that gamed the algorithm to capture traffic based on keywords that were often completely unrelated to the content of the site. They just hoped to sell things by exposing themselves to enough eyeballs, user experience be damned. You can’t really do that anymore, and most businesses and serious bloggers have no use for such schenanigans anyway.

Link bait is now about real, original and/or smartly curated content going “viral.” Whether it’s closely related to the subject matter of your business is beside the point. In fact, whatever you focus on all day is probably a wee bit too dry (or, uh, cold and damp?) to catch fire on the interwebz. Visceral reactions are the ones we share. Intellectual ones, not nearly as much.

Let’s suppose you can afford some edgy, topical humor in your content ecosystem (and the vast majority of bloggers and many online brands certainly can) there are a lot of ways to approach it — none of them guaranteed. Creating things that grab a lot of “endorsements” as links certainly requires an artful approach to the content. That being said, I strongly believe there really is a method you can use to greatly improve your chances.

Think of it as a venn diagram; the more traits you capture, the more likely you are to create something people react to, get a kick out of AND want to share. No single trait is required, but the more the better.
I’ll use the Dear Leader to illustrate.

Be Timely: Kim Jong-Il was reported dead on a Sunday. I’m writing this fewer than 24 hours later. If your topic is news-related, you’d best jump on it. Social media is faster than cable news, which is faster than network news. Wait too long and topical content is too late.

Be Trending: Not “trendy.” Trendy is probably “over.” Trendy happens after it’s caught fire for a while. News sites, blogs and the twittersphere are… a-twitter… with Kim Jong-Il right now. Ride the wave. People want to be in on it. No use in writing about breaking news that no one cares to talk about. Curate good stuff as a way to jump into the conversation, like this list of the best Kim Jong-Il parodies. You don’t need much writing talent to curate well.

Be Titillating: You want people to ask “What is THIS about?” Think long and hard about your headline. Be provocative, controversial, a little bit bad or otherwise unabashedly indulgent. You have permission to push the boundaries of good taste. Have a theory about the deceased despot’s sex life? His hopes and dreams? His fashion sense? His reflections on a life well- despicably-lived? Why he’s so misunderstood? Why the world is doomed without him? The dude was crazy – you could just about report facts and they’d be rather curious.

Be Funny: This might be the hardest part. If you’ve done a good job finding a titillating topic, the funny angle should follow. Funny isn’t necessary, but it sure helps. This Kim Jong-Il dating profile has been viewed over 100,000 times in the past two years (that’s a lot of volume for most videos, to be sure), probably because it’s titillating, but it’s not terribly funny. It ain’t no Honey Badger with 27,000,000 views , even though it took more creativity and effort to create the video from scratch. Think you need a video to be funny? Cracked.com doesn’t think so.

Be Familiar: I’m from Pittsburgh and for whatever reason, anything said in a Pittsburgh accent is good stuff to share. Sometimes it’s hilarious just because “it’s so true,” other times it’s nostalgic, and still other times, it gives us cover to say the rude, bigoted thoughts we don’t dare spout in polite company. We share familiar things with people we know, stereotypes included. You think the stereotype in the honey badger video isn’t part of what makes it so funny? The actor’s accent in the Kim Jong-Il parody is funny for that same reason. Both politically incorrect, for sure. It’s like joking with your best friend in private, but you do have to find the line– no one will share hateful content.

Be Succinct: If your idea has to be explained, few are going to get it, and no one is going to say, “Hey, look at this!” even if they do get it. Memes are ideas that we ALL get. They travel from person to person with ease. Sometimes, rockstar viral content BECOMES the meme. Most often, it just uses them. Kim Jong-Il is a meme inside of many others: dictator, ankle biter, fashion fail, eccentric weirdo, brutal psychopath. It all goes without saying.

Be Loved or Hated: Link bait doesn’t do it’s job if people don’t “talk” about it by sharing. The stronger our reaction to something, the more likely we need to experience that with others. Don’t be afraid. Go all-in with your crazy take on a subject. Play the devil’s advocate. Produce a satire or a total goof. Slight bemusement won’t get you far. Blasphemy will. You can go off on His Dear Deadness– people love to read about universally hated characters. How handy.

Be Epic: Work hard at it. Make you stuff worth it. Do some research. Make it a production. Good link bait must be a lot better than average, by definition. If you’re guest-posting the piece it will certainly need to be of high value to make it onto a quality site. Of course it’s hard for most of us to create epic shit on a regular basis, with limited time, talent or resources, especially when blogging and other content objectives are just a portion of our daily demands. Dedicating yourself to a great piece every now and then may be worth five, 10, 50 or even 100 regular ho-hum posts. So give it a shot! Kim Jong-Il will only die once, after all.

Anchor Text: Make A Major SEO Impact With Seemingly Minor Details

Anchor text is a perfect example of a seemingly minor detail that actually has a significant impact on a website’s page rank. Understanding some basic principles about anchor text will help you improve the content of your site and enhance its SEO aspects.

What is anchor text?

Anchor text refers to the visible characters and words that hyperlink display when linking to another document or location on the web. For example, if you are linking to an interesting article, your anchor text could be anything from “click here” to the article’s actual title. The hyperlink’s formatting will be different from the surrounding text, either underlined or bolded, and generally a different color than the non-hyperlinked words around it.

How do you decide which words to use as anchor text?

The truth is, most of us intuitively know the best phrases to hyperlink and realize the more specific the anchor text is, the better for our readers and for the linked page. Using generic terms and phrases such as “click here” and “read more” will do the trick, but they are also boring, disrupt the flow of your writing, and tell search engines absolutely nothing about this link you felt was worth mentioning. It is far more effective for your anchor text to include keywords that you would expect to point the way to this linked page if you were searching for it through a search engine.

The first link is the most important link.

Something you should keep in mind is that Google only indexes the anchor text for a specific URL the first time it appears on a page. That means you need to make that initial anchor text count. Titles, domain names, and critical, topical keywords are your best bets for effective anchor text.

The URL behind the anchor text is just as important as the words themselves.

When you are linking to other pages (or asking someone to link to yours), make sure the URL is correct and specific. While a link that leads to your homepage is fine and dandy, it will not ultimately yield the results you want. The best URL will be a permalink that leads to a specific page on a website. Also, links with typos or broken links will undermine exactly what you are trying to do. If you are disseminating information, you will frustrate your audience, and they will not be able to go where you are supposedly sending them. Similarly, if people are linking to you, you do not want them to land on a 404-error page.

Your anchor text can, and should, vary.

When it comes to your own links, you should make sure your anchor text is not uniform across the board. Using synonyms and adjusting syntax can yield excellent anchor text that distinguishes itself from your other links. Other small but effective adjustments to anchor text include switching from singular to plural, alternating between verbs and nouns, or changing word stems.

Internal links need anchor text, too.

When we talk about linking, the emphasis tends to be on outbound links that bring someone to an entirely different website, but there is also internal linking within your own site. Put as much thought into those as you would to external links. There is nothing wrong with helping your readers navigate your site and helping yourself when it comes to better SEO results. That said, linking should be done smartly and sparingly, which brings us to . . .

Less is more.

We have all been on a page that has links up the wazoo, and it is not a pleasant experience. When barraged with links, we make assumptions about the content and the website. It seems commercial, unreliable, and too busy. We feel we have been tricked into landing on some link farm with little to no value, and usually that is the case. Sometimes, however, someone is just overzealous when it comes to linking. Make sure your links, both internal and external, serve a purpose. If people click on your anchor text, you want them to feel like you did them a favor, not duped them or wasted their time.

Write your post first and select the anchor text later.

The best content and link building evolves naturally. When you begin to compose an article or blog post, forget about optimization and just write. Once your article is written, you can revise it with SEO in mind. It will be much easier to decide upon your anchor text and optimize your content in sensible ways, if they are finishing touches and not the primary goal.

Page Titles: Crafting A Critical Piece Of The SEO Puzzle

Page titles

Whether you are concerned about creating an SEO friendly website or just want a well-designed and professional site representing you, you need to devote time and energy to seemingly small details, such as page titles. Page titles appear in a number of critical places: at the top of the browser when the window is active, in tab labels, which is particularly helpful when someone has multiple tabs open, as the default text when someone bookmarks a page, and, most importantly, in search engine results. Page titles help search engines index your pages and allow people to find you. All of this may seem obvious, and the best page titles may seem like common sense, but keeping the following things in mind will help you reap the most benefit from this critical piece of the SEO puzzle.
  • While there is no set number of characters your title can have, Google only displays up to 70 title characters. The ideal is approximately 65 characters, give or take a few. Too short, you run the risk of not providing enough information to humans and search engines alike. Too long, and your title will become cumbersome and only partially displayed.
  • Avoid generic words. It is amazing how many page titles lurking around the internet are actually “Untitled.” “Home,” “Welcome,” and “About,” are similarly useless. You want your page titles to be specific, unique, and informative. Keep in mind that generic words can be appropriate if surrounded by other uncommon, descriptive words.
  • Find the balance between careful consideration and overthinking. The main elements of your page title should be obvious. If you are writing articles or blog posts, chances are high that your article’s title will also be your page title or something very close to it. Similarly, if your page relates to one product or service from a host of offerings, that product or service should be in your page title. While you want your titles to be dynamic, you do not want them to be abstract or obscure. Never forget that the primary purpose of a title is to describe what is on the page in a way that will make sense to search engines and people alike.
  • Use keywords appropriately. You do not need to be an SEO professional to understand that keywords are how people find you online. Your page title should include at least one primary keyword that would correlate with the online search that would hopefully lead people to this particular page. It is not uncommon to use a secondary keyword in a page title, as well, and if it flows nicely, by all means, feel free to do this. You should not, however, stuff your titles with keywords, anymore than you would crowd your content with redundant or excessive terms. It will dilute the impact of your writing, and will drive your rank down for using black hat SEO practices.
  • Use the most significant words first. While there is nothing wrong with common articles like “the” and “a,” and words like “how” or  “why,” it is best to lead with your most important words. Not only do search engines pay more attention to the first few words, but people scanning through a list of titles do, too.
  • There is no hard and fast rule about whether you should include your company or brand name, of if you do, whether it should be in every page title or only a few. If you think people will be searching for you by a particular name, you should include it, but you should also use words that remind people exactly what your company does and indicate what specifically is on the page. For example, if you own a restaurant, it would be smart to include your restaurant’s name, the cuisine you cook, your geographical location, and a description of that page’s contents, such as “dinner menu” or “directions,” but not necessarily in that order. That may sound like a lot of information to condense into 70 characters, but “Vegan Lunch Menu | Veganation Restaurant, Santa Monica, CA” is exactly 58 characters including spaces and punctuation. Before anyone becomes too excited, I should mention that currently there is not a vegan restaurant by the name of Veganation in Santa Monica, CA.
  • Do not use duplicate titles. Each page of your website should have unique content, and each title should be specific to that content. Duplicate content will hurt your search ranking, even more so with Google’s Panda update, and makes it difficult to navigate your website.
Page titles are a reflection of your website’s content. You should approach your 70 characters or less with the same consideration and creativity you devote to your content. As with all things SEO, a little extra time and attention even to seemingly small details will pay off in the long run.

TIPS SEO off Page

Melanjutkan postingan sebelumnya mengenai tips SEO on page, kali ini kita akan membahas kegiatan optimasi selanjutnya, yakni Tips SEO off page.

TIPS SEO on Page

Agar Hasil SEO Tidak Mengecewakan
